I remember the mid fifties at an open base day at Luxeuil where, at 6 pm, a man arrived in skirt with short sleeves, a boxer short and opened light shoes. Just enough to climb in a Mystère IV, start the engine with or without help of a ground mechanic and begin to taxy without helmet and oxygen, just Ray Bans!!! And so after a few minutes of a very low altitude flight he reached the Dijon Air Base to land and park beside other Mystère IVs of 2nd Fighter Wing. I know many airclub pilots unable to fly with such a simplicity during a Summer Sunday afternoon...!!!
