It seems that the Romanian ICA-IAR 822 agricultural aircraft was considered as underpowered and this was more evident when the all metal derivative 826 and its 290 hp Lycoming engine appeared . So, early 1973, begun studies for the strengthened 827 version with a scheduled flying life of 4000 hours and fitted with 400 hp Avco-Lycoming which, quickly, revealed its weakness and was replaced from second prototype by a Polish PZL-3S radial 600 hp power-plant.
