With almost the same position on deck as
" 41 ", this is Alizé N°1 in the early markings and paint scheme
used by Aeronavale with a letter to identify machines. Origins of Alizé are a
little complicated. It derived from
Bréguet 96O Vulture prototype ( flown on August 3, 1951 )combining a
turboprop Mamba and a Nene jet engine; second prototype became the Bréguet
965, a flying mock-up just fitted with a more powerful Mamba and first flown
on March 26, 1955 for preliminar work for a carrier-borne three-seater needed
by French Navy for the early sixties. Very extended tests led to the first
true Alizé, the Bréguet 1050 which flew on October 6, 1956 with a 2000 shp Dart
turboprop, followed by a second prototype flown on December 21 of the same
year. Next three pre-production A/C were used for complete operational
evaluation. See caption of picture 31 for short information about general
production machines. |
